I’ve found a new love… Coconut water! Confession, I don’t just drink water all day (it does get a bit boring). I still meet my daily goal of water, but now I add in a little sweetness to my day with delicious coconut water. There are great health benefits for your body and brain to drinking coconut water every day.
When I started drinking coconut water a few months ago, I just did it to add in some potassium to my diet (I’m not a banana fan), and I enjoy the taste. So, I decided to check out what else coconut water could offer me, and I found out some amazing health benefits. These hard coconuts are hiding some pretty healthy secrets…

1. Reduces Stress
You could use a little less stress in your life. Am I right? We live with stress from work, family, and life. But did you know that a magnesium deficiency can also contribute to your stress and anxiety?
Magnesium is the go-to mineral for relaxation. It functions in the parasympathetic nervous system that helps us relax and produce the hormone serotonin that makes us happy.
Try boosting your magnesium intake and lowering your stress with; coconut water, avocado, dark leafy greens, nuts, seeds, and even dark chocolate.
2. Promotes A Healthy Heart
Our body, and literally our life depends on a healthy heart. Sadly, the #1 cause of death in our country is heart disease that is mostly preventable.
Coconut water is high in potassium, a mineral that can help lower blood pressure and promote a healthy heart.
Potassium helps to regulate fluids and the mineral balance in our cells, helps to maintain a normal blood pressure by blunting the effects of sodium, and may reduce kidney stones and bone loss as we age. (eatright.org)
3. Build Stronger Bones and Teeth
Coconut water has phosphorus and calcium minerals to help build stronger bones and teeth. Calcium alone can’t build strong bones, it needs phosphorus to help maximize its benefits. Research has shown the two minerals are co-dependent for bone heath. (webmd.com)
4. Slow Down Aging, Cancer, and Alzheimer’s
Who isn’t looking to fight the effects of aging and prevent disease? Coconut water has a lot of healthy antioxidants that fight the free radicals that cause damage to our bodies. Those nasty free radicals are what harm our skin and speed up the aging process.
It’s also rich in cytokinins. Cyto what-ins? Nope, never heard of that word either until now.
Cytokinins are plant growth hormones that studies have recently found to slow down both the skin’s aging process as well as the development of cancerous cells. A cytokinin called zeatin may prevent the cell damaging properties of amyloid-beta plaques that contribute to the Alzheimer’s disease. (pubmed.gov)
5. The Perfect Post Work-Out Drink
Did you grow up in the Gatorade age? I sure did. Gatorade has been around for over 50 years, and we grew up on those sports commercials. Even partially brainwashed into thinking you weren’t a real athlete or truly working out if you didn’t drink Gatorade.😂
Coconut water is an excellent option for a post work-out recovery drink.
When we exercise or sweat for any reason, our body loses electrolytes such as magnesium, potassium, calcium, and sodium. You see where I’m going with this? Coconut water has these minerals built in naturally (not artificially made) to replenish your body.
Wow! Those super hard coconuts are really hiding some super healthy benefits inside.
If you’re drinking coconut water or about to for the first time, there are a lot of brands out there to choose from. It can be confusing which brand to choose.
Plus, coconut water isn’t cheap. Don’t waste your money on brands that heat pasteurize, don’t use young coconuts, or add stuff. Why and what’s the difference?
